Biomate MBC 781

Highly effective in reducing bacterial growth and slime build-up.
Effecient at low concentrations.
Broad spectrum of microbiological activity.
RO system performance is enhanced when MBC 781 is used in conjunction with Kleen MCT 442 or 882 and, IPA 411 or Kleen MCT 511.
Formulated specifically to be compatible with thin film polyamide, polysulfone, and PVDF membranes Extremely fast antimicrobial action in conditions found within membrane separation plant.
No adverse effects with repeated use.

◇DESCRIPTION AND USE

MBC 781 is an EPA registered, non-oxidizing biocide used to sanitize reverse osmosis (RO) and ultrafiltration (UF) systems and membranes. MBC 781 is fed continuously to the feed water of these systems. The Biogrowth Control Program SM utilizing MBC 781 with other GE-Betz cleaning formulations will result in more effective membrane cleaning and decreased cleaning frequencies.

The dose rate of the MBC 781 application should be determined by a study of the normalised system performance, taking into consideration the level of biological activity in the feed , permeate and reject streams. This evaluation can be carried out by GE-Betz personnel to determine the appropriate dose level, application frequency and injection points.

◇APPLICATION

For optimum results, the system should be cleaned with Kleen MCT 882 or Kleen MCT 442, and Kleen MCT 511 or IPA 411 prior to start of the MBC 781 treatment regime.

Check with your local GE-Betz representative to determine the specific conditions in your system in order to define the optimum dosage rate and cleaning procedure. In some systems modifications to the clean in place facilities may be required to ensure the optimum cleaning results are achieved.

MBC 781 may be applied in one of two ways. It may be intermittently fed to the feedwater of a membrane separation system, or MBC 781 may be used in a clean in place (CIP) mode.

Procedures used to determine the quantity of MBC 781 to be used in each of these modes of treatment are listed below.

Ml/min. of MBC 781 required =

plant feed, gpm x desired ppm of MBC 781
                               330

Total ml of MBC 781 needed per treatment = ml/min. of MBC 781 x treatment duration, min.

◇Clean in place procedure

1. Secure the RO system and valve into the CIP mode.
2. Fill the cleaning tank to the desired level of water.
3. Add 100 ppm of MBC 781 to the tank and recirculate to dissolve.
4. Recirculate the MBC 781 solution for 45 minutes.
5. Discontinue recirculation after 45 minutes and thoroughly rinse the system with dechlorinated feedwater.
6. Flush thoroughly until all MBC 781 is removed from system.

Most non-metallic tank materials including polyethylene, polypropylene, SaranTM, and TeflonTM, exhibit good, long-term resistance to MBC 781. Acceptable pump components include SS 304, SS 316, TeflonTM, VitonTM, CPETM, PolyPro, PVC, Buna-N, EPDM, Neoprene, Polyethylene, Silicone, Lexan, Butyl Rubber and ABS.

MBC 781 should be used only in industrial applications. It should never be used in those applications in which membrane system permeate, or products formulated with permeate, could be consumed by or injected into humans or animals.
